Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
Transcribe data at a keyboarding speed of 50 words per minute or more.
Maintain the financial records of a small business using computerized accounting software.
Design and update a simple website for an organization.
Write and/or edit grammatically accurate, well-styled business documents.
Use database management software to organize, analyze and present operational data.
Use spreadsheet software to organize, analyze and present operational data.
Create business presentations incorporating graphical, sound,
and video features.
Interact successfully with clients,
co-workers, and superiors.
Apply administrative office procedures using current
business technology.
Prepare professional business documents including memorandums, letters, reports, newsletters, and advertising flyers using word processing and specialized desktop publishing applications.

What you’ll learn:

Introduces students to common office procedures.
Topics such as human relations; organization structure and office layout; office technology; front-line reception; aspects of business communication specific
to the office professional; and record keeping are covered. -
Prepares students to perform functions common to all Microsoft Windows applications.
Elements include the ability to create and manipulate Word, Excel,
or PowerPoint applications, modify the display of toolbars and other
on-screen elements, use online help, and perform file management,
editing, formatting and printing functions common
to most Windows applications. -
Improves touch typing skills on a keyboard with a focus on improving speed and accuracy.
This course increases job efficiency and understanding of workstation ergonomics. -
Provides students with the knowledge and tools to communicate effectively and professionally in the workplace.
Students are introduced to essential skills in writing, speaking, formal presentations and the use of technology to enhance workplace communication. -
Develops a foundation in customer service by focusing on building lifelong customer relationships through the development of positive customer care approaches.

Provides a general overview of the human resource functions that assist an organization delivers value through proper management of the employee lifecycle.

Introduces students to a broad overview of the world of business.
Students consider how various external factors such as government and social trends affect business and the role of economics, information technology, management, global trends, and finance. human resources and production play in Canadian business.

Investigates the behavior of people within organizations for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organization’s effectiveness.
Behaviours studied include individuals, individuals within a group and inter-group behavior. -
Assists students in developing skills and gaining knowledge in administration, event planning and management, marketing, risk management planning, human resource management and professionalism.

Introduces students to the fundamentals of business writing and provides students with the knowledge and techniques to hone their writing skills for the business environment.
The structure and form of business documents are covered in addition to language and writing style. -
Introduces students to the knowledge, skills and tools needed to excel as an executive assistant in a professional business environment.

Examines federal and provincial laws that regulate the workplace and best practices to ensure employment standards and guidelines are established.

Explores the goals, strategies and tools for a successful recruitment and selection process.
Completion Requirements
We will use the following grade scale to determine each student’s grade through their work. Students must receive an average of 75% from all the assignments in order to pass the course.
